Q. I am a healthy 40-year-old man and have always been a 'fitness freak'. I jog 2 miles per day and can bench-press 300lb. I was shocked when, on visiting my doctor for some mild lower abdominal discomfort, I was told that I have "a double hernia". I thought that only 'weaklings' or sick people had this problem. What exactly is a hernia?

The Association notes with pride the recent announcement that our Immediate Past President, Dr Trevor McCartney has been selected for National Honours by the Government of Jamaica, in this year's National Awards Ceremony.Dr McCartney was awarded the Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD), for his contribution to Medicine.

ASJ MAKES CONTRIBUTION (25/3/05)

President, Dr Geoffrey Williams recently made a presentation of $50,000 to Ms Paola Brown, Superintendent of the Blossom Garden's Children's Home, Montego Bay.The fund was initiated at the ASJ weekend retreat held at FDR, Runaway Bay, at the end of November 2004.
